April 14th, 2019 — John Doe ends his relationship with Laura Smith
Prior to April 14th, 2019, Laura Smith had been living with John Doe full time. During their relationship, Laura Smith and John Doe never openly discussed the possibility of Laura Smith living with John Doe full time. John Doe did not feel comfortable with Laura Smith living with him full time after only having known her for several months. Laura Smith claimed that she was homeless, and John Doe returned home from work one day in November 2018 to find she had moved her possessions into his house. During the time that John Doe and Laura Smith were in a relationship, Laura Smith informed John Doe that she received a diagnosis of bi-polar type schizoaffective disorder. Laura Smith's behavior grew increasingly erratic and violent. Laura Smith repeatedly threatened John Doe verbally with statements such as, "I'll cut your dick off if you talk to other girls." Laura Smith would engage female friends of John Doe on social media in an attempt to manufacture distrust towards John Doe and to socially isolate him.Laura Smith intentionally tripped John Doe in his bathroom, which resulted in him falling on his left knee with sufficient force to cause him severe pain and limited mobility to this day, which has negatively impacted his quality of life.
Laura Smith refused John Doe' requests that she move out of his house on the basis that the floor in her house had degraded to such an extent as to render it unsafe to inhabit. John Doe opted to repair and replace the floor in Laura Smith's home in order to compel her to move out of his home. In the process of replacing Laura Smith's floor, John Doe suddenly fell through a portion of the floor that appeared to be safe to occupy, sustaining an injury to his head from a crowbar that was forced upward into his skull by the force of him falling through the floor.
It was only after John Doe replaced Laura Smith's floor that he was able to persuade her to move out of his home.
April 2019 - November 2019 — Laura Smith harasses John Doe
Text and social media harassment
During this time period, Laura Smith made numerous accounts on various social media platforms including Snapchat, OkCupid, and Instagram specifically for the purpose of harassing John Doe. Laura Smith sent John Doe a barrage of abusive text messages that lasted for months, in spite of John Doe specifically telling Laura Smith not to contact him anymore under any circumstances on any platform.These messages were sent to John Doe while John Doe had blocked Laura's phone number on his phone. The messages were still delivered to his computer, however, which causes the screenshots to appear one-sided. Additionally, this is only a small fraction of the entirety of harassing messages sent to John Doe by Laura Smith. John Doe opted to delete the majority of messages without documenting them as they caused him psychological distress.
On several occasions, John Doe called Laura Smith's psychiatrist's office because he was concerned about her safety. Laura Smith's psychiatrist's office instructed John Doe to contact a mental health crisis hotline, who then directed John Doe to call 911, which resulted in Laura Smith being hospitalized for several weeks. Laura Smith was hospitalized for being a danger to herself or others numerous times throughout the period of time John Doe knew her, and after he ended their relationship.
After breaking up with Laura Smith, John Doe did not immediately cut off communication with her on the basis that he felt as though Laura Smith needed as much support as she could get to help her cope with her mental illness. Laura Smith continually contacted John Doe requesting that he see her. Laura Smith attempted on several occasions to convince John Doe that she was pregnant for the purposes of manipulating him into seeing her.
Laura Smith also told John Doe on one occasion that she had been drugged and raped by her date, and only remembered accepting a drink from him, later waking up in her car with no underwear. John Doe continually referred Laura Smith to the police, which she openly declined and instead requested his presence. John Doe denied Laura Smith's requests. Laura Smith admitted to John Doe several weeks later that she was lying about being raped.
Laura Smith also informed John Doe on several occasions that Elizabeth Smith had expressed an interest in pursuing criminal or civil legal action against him on the basis that he allegedly deliberately and maliciously infected Laura Smith with HSV1. Laura Smith advised John Doe that she requested Elizabeth Smith not attempt to pursue John Doe.
Debit card abuse
On several occasions, Laura Smith decided to use John Doe' debit card without authorization to buy hundreds of dollars worth of nicotine cartridges and other items. Laura Smith wrote down John Doe' debit card information without his authorization. After being confronted, Laura Smith insisted she discarded his card information. Laura Smith then used his card again several times afterwards.
Revenge porn
In November of 2019, Laura Smith posted several pieces of revenge porn containing John Doe on her PornHub.com account, in an album titled "SLUTS."“Revenge porn is the distribution of sexually explicit images or video of individuals without their consent. The sexually explicit images or video may be made by a partner of an intimate relationship with the knowledge and consent of the subject, or it may be made without their knowledge. The possession of the material may be used by the perpetrators to blackmail the subjects into performing other sex acts, to coerce them into continuing the relationship, to punish them for ending the relationship, or to silence them.John Doe opted to issue takedown requests to PornHub.com under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, to which PornHub responded by removing the revenge porn. Laura Smith, upon realizing the revenge porn she posted had been removed, sent an email to John Doe under one of her pseudonym email accounts, "Toby Mateo," saying "Did you seriously get my shit removed?"
The term [revenge porn] generally refers to the uploading of this sexually explicit material to humiliate and intimidate the subject, who has broken off the relationship.”
Attempted defamation
On November 15th, 2019, Laura Smith emailed the leadership of John Doe' church (for which he was at the time in a leadership role) under the same pseudonym, claiming that she witnessed John Doe making remarks that were misogynistic and promoted rape and abuse of women. This was a transparent attempt to assassinate John Doe' character, which she would go on to attempt many more times in the future.
October 8th, 2019 — Kiley Lowe moves to Austin
John Doe offered Kiley Lowe a place to stay at his house while she was looking for a job and a place to live in Austin. John Doe also assisted Kiley Lowe in searching for and securing employment and housing, and recommended she seek therapy for her untreated bipolar disorder. Kiley Lowe resided at John Doe' house from October 8th, 2019 through November 23rd, 2019.John Doe also included Kiley Lowe at the center of his core friend group, out of a desire to help her locate a support network and socialization opportunities in Austin. John Doe invited Kiley Lowe to participate in social activities with Kent Cook, Kay Carpenter, Sarah Flaniken, and Ciara Hernandez.
October, 2019 — Kiley Lowe's friend group forms, joins John Doe' church
Kiley Lowe increasingly began associating with Kent Cook, Kay Carpenter, Sarah Flaniken, and Ciara Hernandez.Gradually, Kiley Lowe's friend group became increasingly centric around BDSM. John Doe became aware that many members of this group were engaging in sexual activity with one another. The group frequently attended "Shrine," a local sex club, and pressured John Doe to attend, which he did once, and opted not to do so again because he felt uncomfortable while being there.
A mutual friend of John Doe, Kiley Lowe, and Kay Carpenter also witnessed concerning behavior originating from Kiley Lowe's friend group:
“They [Kiley Lowe, Kay Carpenter, Sarah Flaniken, Ciara Hernandez] were all at my house a lot, and I would hear from each one of them, it was almost like it was a competition with one guy, it didn't seem like, uh, it seemed like they were competing for one guy's attention and it seemed like they weren't open with each other about what was going on. It was almost like, each one of them didn't really know all the pieces with this same guy.
Kay showed me that someone carved "slut" in their ass and showed me it, and it was scarred, it was in the process of scarring and it eventually scarred, and they [Kay Carpenter] said that Kiley had a matching one, and that they got it done at Shrine.
I remember Kay came home, knocked on my door and was sobbing, and when I opened my door they [Kay Carpenter] kinda fell into me and was sobbing, and I asked what was going on and they [Kay Carpenter] were talking almost incoherently because they [Kay Carpenter] were just crying so heavily they [Kay Carpenter] couldn't communicate with me, and so finally we went outside and they [Kay Carpenter] fell to the ground crying, and I sat beside them, and they [Kay Carpenter] told me that Kent was extremely aggressive around the house, was hitting the walls and shaking the whole house, and screaming at the top of his lungs, and that it really really scared both Kiley and Kay, and Kay said they [Kay Carpenter] felt uncomfortable leaving Kiley there, but that they [Kay Carpenter] needed to leave. I told Kay that I didn't feel that Kay was safe around them, and Kay agreed and said what happened was not okay and was very alarming. ”
November 1st, 2019 — Kiley Lowe performs oral sex on John Doe while he is asleep, after a church event
On the evening of October 31st, 2019, John Doe held a church social event at his house. During this period of time, Kiley Lowe was still living in John Doe' office.As the event progressed into a party and the evening unfolded, John Doe gave several of his friends, including Ciara Hernandez, permission to sleep in his bed as they were not feeling well. By this time, several attendees had left, but a sizable portion of attendees remained. At the end of the evening, there were several people still asleep in John Doe' bed, as well as on his couches and other sleeping surfaces. John Doe and Kiley Lowe were the last two people to go to bed in the early morning hours of November 1st, 2019. The only remaining bed available belonged to John Doe' brother, who was out of town. Kiley Lowe and John Doe agreed to sleep next to each other, fully clothed and on top of the covers. Additionally, the door to John Doe' brother's room was left open, and John Doe and Kiley Lowe were in clear view of the individual sleeping on John Doe' couch in his living room. John Doe was intoxicated and promptly fell asleep some time around 6am. John Doe awoke in the afternoon. John Doe did not note anything amiss or unusual about Kiley Lowe's behavior that day, and they proceeded with their day as usual.
In June 2020, John Doe, after retracing the events of the evening, remembered that during the morning of November 1st, 2019, he had awoken, laying on his back, to see Kiley Lowe on top of him, with his penis in her mouth. John Doe was confused and embarrassed by Kiley's actions, and was afraid of how Kiley Lowe would react if he told her to stop, as Kiley Lowe is physically much larger than John Doe and has exhibited sexually violent behavior towards him in the past. The previous day on October 31st, John Doe announced his relationship with his current partner on social media. Kiley Lowe may have felt a desire to seek revenge on John Doe for rejecting her past advances and instead beginning a relationship with his current partner.
Kiley Lowe had previously attempted to engage John Doe sexually and romantically on numerous occasions, since around 2016. Kiley Lowe at one point, visiting John Doe on a trip to Austin, informed John Doe that she was in love with him and asked him to be in a relationship with her, in spite of the fact that she was aware John Doe was then in a committed relationship. John Doe informed Kiley Lowe that he loved her as a friend, and would always be there for her as a friend, but did not wish to pursue a romantic relationship with her.
Later during the same visit, Kiley Lowe went on to imply to both John Doe' brother and John Doe' then-girlfriend that Kiley Lowe and John Doe had engaged in sexual relations in the past, which was false.
After Kiley Lowe moved to Austin in October of 2019, she would frequently make sexually coercive statements directed at John Doe such as, "why won't you have sex with me?" and "I'm trying to get someone to come over and fuck me tonight, too bad you won't do it." These statements made John Doe extremely uncomfortable, but he chose to ignore them instead of requesting she stop, as he was afraid of enraging his close friend of over a decade.
Several individuals present at social events attended by John Doe and Kiley Lowe also witnessed similar behavior originating from Kiley Lowe directed at John Doe:
“We were outside John's house, and we were not talking about sex, just talking about other things, and Kiley kept interrupting the conversation with really inappropriate sexual comments, and offers, and saying, kinda begging and saying, like, we should all have a threesome, and she was repeatedly asking John to let her perform oral sex on him, and hugging on him and pulling on him, and he was visibily uncomfortable, and he and I kept trying to sway the conversation a different way, but Kiley seemed very adamant about that route.
I got so uncomfortable that I decided I wanted to go home, because John was uncomfortable, and I felt like it was just weird, and I remember John asking me to stay, and I said 'I didn't want to', and he said 'please', so I stayed and I was gonna sleep on his couch, and he said 'no, can you sleep in my room', and I said 'yes', and... I wasn't sure why, but when I saw how Kiley was being towards him, I was like, this makes sense. I felt like John didn't want to be alone with Kiley in his own home, and I was uncomfortable being there too, and then Kiley took her shirt off, and I wanted to go home, but I stayed, and then I woke up very early and left. And it was just fucking weird and uncomfortable.
I remember Kiley raising her voice and asking John 'why won't you fuck me?'. ”
November 18th, 2019 — John Doe files harassment charges against Laura Smith
At the recommendation of his close friends, after the continued harassment and attempted defamation Laura Smith engaged in, John Doe opted to file harassment charges against Laura Smith.Kiley Lowe was living at John Doe' house during the time period Laura Smith was harassing John Doe, and was aware that Laura Smith had been harassing him.
December, 2019 — John Doe withdraws from Kiley Lowe's friend group
On October 31st, 2019, John Doe began a new romantic relationship with his current partner. Kay Carpenter and Kiley Lowe expressed an apparent dislike of John Doe' partner, and had several negative interactions with John Doe' partner.John Doe arrived at his residence one day to find Sarah Flaniken in his office, who had been invited there by Kiley Lowe. John Doe was not informed or otherwise made aware that Sarah Flaniken would be at his house, nor that Sarah Flaniken would be spending the night in John Doe' office. The next morning, Sarah Flaniken was still occupying John Doe' office, unbeknownst to him. John Doe then proceeded to have sexual relations with his partner, in his bedroom across the hall. When John Doe arrived home from work later that same day, he found Kiley Lowe and Kay Carpenter in his kitchen. When John Doe approached Kiley Lowe and Kay Carpenter to greet them, Kiley Lowe asked John Doe, "Hey! How was your shitty fuck fest this morning?" and both Kiley Lowe and Kay Carpenter proceeded to laugh. John Doe told them that he did not feel welcome there, and immediately went upstairs to his room.
On a separate occasion, John Doe and his current partner were laying in his bed, fully clothed and on top of the covers kissing, with the bedroom door open. Kay Carpenter, upon walking up the stairs in John Doe' home and witnessing John Doe and his current partner together, quickly shut the door to John Doe' bedroom and went downstairs without a word.
Kiley Lowe and Kay Carpenter also expressed a great deal of animosity towards John Doe due to an incident whereupon they had requested the use of John Doe' place of residence for the purpose of having a Thanksgiving party. John Doe agreed to let Kiley Lowe and her friend group use his place of residence, not wanting to draw their ire. The day before Thanksgiving, John Doe was informed that his current partner's mother had unexpectedly fallen ill, and required medical attention. As a result, John Doe instead chose to drive his current partner back to his current partner's mother's city of residence, and informed Kiley Lowe and her friend group that they no longer had permission to use John Doe' place of residence for their Thanksgiving party, since John Doe would not be present at the time. Kay Carpenter, upon encountering John Doe unexpectedly in public several days later, told John Doe "You're a dick for cancelling Thanksgiving."
Kiley Lowe was also upset with John Doe on and after the date that John Doe moved her into her new apartment with Kent Cook. Kiley Lowe claimed to be upset with John Doe because he told her that he would move her into her new apartment at 12PM, requesting that Kiley Lowe help wake John Doe up that morning. The morning of the move, Kiley Lowe did not attempt to wake up John Doe, and as a result, he moved Kiley Lowe's possessions for her at 2PM. Kiley Lowe claimed that this forced her to cancel her evening plans. Kiley Lowe also largely refused to speak to John Doe on the day of the move. Kiley Lowe and Kay Carpenter demanded that John Doe furnish them with the keys to his pickup truck and trailer, which they did not know how to operate safely.
John Doe had also grown concerned about Kiley Lowe's cocaine usage, which appeared to indicate to him that she was in active addiction. Kiley Lowe stated she was experiencing severe health issues which she suspected was a result of her use of cocaine.
“I remember hanging out with Kiley once and she basically said 'John's being a dick now, whenever he gets in a relationship he doesn't have any more time for his friends' even though John had just recently helped her move ”
“During Kay's birthday party, we were all at a bar, and I went because it was Kay's birthday - I didn't really want to be there. But, Kiley and Kent were there with Sarah, Kent showed up a little later, but uh, Kiley, upon seeing me was like, 'you didn't hug me when you came up to me' and I said, 'no I'm just not a hugger.' and then, it kinda dropped off there, and then Kiley brought it up from across the table again and was like, 'you won't even fucking hug me! why won't you hug me?' and I was just like, 'Kiley I'm just not a hugger.' And then, it ended up, Kiley made such a big deal out of it, and was very adamant about me hugging her, that finally I just hugged her, but I felt extremely uncomfortable then. It was very, like, it was abnormal socially, you know, like it wasn't just like a 'oh well you won't hug me' it was almost like an adamant kind of thing, which I felt was super weird for somebody to be like that. It was just very demanding, and I feel like she could tell it wasn't something I wanted to do. ”
January 15th, 2020 — John Doe discovers Kiley Lowe and Kent Cook have been telling his friends that he sexually assaulted her
On the evening of January 14th, 2020, John Doe was socializing with Kay Carpenter's roommate, a friend of his, at their place of residence. Kiley Lowe, Kay Carpenter, Sarah Flaniken, and Ciara Hernandez arrived, and promptly adjourned to Kay Carpenter's room to do cocaine. Over the next several hours, several more friends of Kay Carpenter's roommate arrived, and a small social gathering commenced. John Doe periodically went into Kay Carpenter's room to check in on the inhabitants and brought them beverages. John Doe was confused as to why his friends would not make eye contact with him while he was present in the room.Some time after midnight, Kay Carpenter, Sarah Flaniken, and Ciara Hernandez departed. Kiley Lowe then approached John Doe requesting to talk. John Doe agreed, and they sat down in Kay Carpenter's unoccupied room to converse. Kiley Lowe then accused John Doe of touching her inappropriately at church events, and claimed that other members of the church including Kent Cook, Kay Carpenter, Sarah Flaniken, and Ciara Hernandez had confirmed witnessing John Doe touching Kiley Lowe inappropriately. John Doe repeatedly asked Kiley Lowe to name or indicate a specific incident or specific event in which John Doe touched Kiley Lowe inappropriately. Kiley Lowe could not, after nearly thirty minutes of prompting by John Doe, produce any specific incident or occurrence of John Doe touching her inappropriately.
Kiley Lowe then brought up the incident which occurred on Halloween of 2019, stating, "what about when you tried to face fuck me on Halloween?" John Doe at this point in time did not recall the incident in question, and informed Kiley Lowe that he was asleep and did not knowingly do anything of the sort. Kiley Lowe stated that she "told [John Doe] to fuck off and [he] did." Kiley Lowe stated that John Doe' assertion "makes a lot of sense," and proceeded to state that she was remorseful for telling members of John Doe' church that he had sexually assaulted her. John Doe informed Kiley Lowe that their friendship was more important to him than his church, and asked Kiley Lowe why she had not approached him about her allegations sooner. Kiley Lowe stated that she did not know, and that she "felt really bad" for telling members of John Doe' church that he had sexually assaulted her. Afterwards, John Doe and Kiley Lowe exchanged hugs, said "I love you" to one another, and departed.
Two weeks later, Kiley Lowe messaged John Doe with a request to meet with him, which John Doe declined.
January, 2020 - April, 2020 — Kiley Lowe, Kay Carpenter, and Kent Cook continuously contact John Doe requesting to spend time with him socially, in spite of purposefully propagating the narrative that he is a rapist
April 9th, 2020 — Kiley Lowe issues a written statement regarding the alleged sexual assault to John Doe' church in an attempt to get him banned
Kiley submitted a written statement to John Doe' church as a complaint against John Doe. John Doe was not provided the statement, but individuals who read the statement say that it was primarily written by Kent Cook, and in the statement Kiley Lowe explicitly states that she "was kind of into" the alleged sexual abuse and that she willingly performed oral sex on John Doe.Regarding the complaint, Ciara Hernandez had this to say in a private conversation with John Doe:
“I know that you decided to distance yourself from the group and regretted allowing them into [John Doe' church]. A decision that has escalated to where we are now. The relationship between you and these individuals was at first to me a sign of those scorned by ending of a relationship and you finding another. It became apparent it was a bit more vindictive than that. You assume that with my friendship and their relationship with my former partner that I would share the same views of you. I do not. I have stood up for you and dismissed myself from conversations. I have of course have been told some strong opinions about you but I didn’t want to place myself in between peoples own fights. ”An individual who read the written complaint Kiley Lowe issued had this to say about it:
“I think Kent wrote this document. It sounds like his verbiage.
I think it was likely a collaboration. [Another individual who read the document] is leaning this document is 85% Kent.
...needless to say, there really isnt anything incriminating. She pointedly states she never said NO and she "was kind of into it".
...Basically, you "face fucked" - exact words - when the two of you slept in your brother's bed. She at first told you to go back to sleep, but then went with it without saying no. Then there was a an allegation of you pushing her against your refrigerator and choking her, which "she was kind of into". The activity was moved upstairs and you pushed her down on the bed. She landed on top of Ciara who was asleep in your bed and Kiley played it off to Ciara as if she tripped and fell.
Well, she changes her story and now states she completed the face fucking without resistance ”
“At one point, Kay and I were sitting outside and Kay told me that they [Kay Carpenter] didn't believe that John had done this [referring to Kiley Lowe's accusations of sexual assault towards John Doe] and they [Kay Carpenter] didn't know how to fix things with John, and I said that Kay was the leader of that group and Kay brought them all together and was really the lifeline, and if Kay stood up against the accusations that Kent and Sarah would follow Kay. Kay told me, 'I just don't know how to go about it, I don't know how to tell someone that I don't believe them when they [Kiley Lowe] say this to me, though I know John didn't do it.' then Kay also said they [Kay Carpenter] feared that the group would not believe Kay and would ostracize Kay if Kay went against Kiley's word. ”
“I can't imagine [John Doe] doing that [sexually assaulting Kiley Lowe]. I've known since the first day I've met Kiley that she had a thing for [John Doe]. ”
“John, in my experience around him these past years, has never exhibited any behavior that might indicate he would do something like that [sexually assaulting Kiley Lowe]. I also find it unlikely that [John's current partner] would be complicit or unaware. ”
May, 2020 — Kent Cook accuses John Doe of abusing him and Kiley Lowe in front of members of his church in an attempt to get John Doe banned
June 9th, 2020 — Kiley Lowe and Kent Cook conscript Laura Smith to assist them in their defamation and harassment of John Doe
Laura Smith called John Doe' brother and explained that she had been contacted by individuals active in John Doe' church complaining that he had sexually abused people. Laura Smith later shared screenshots of correspondence from Kent Cook and Kiley Lowe with another of John's friends, showing that they had engaged Laura Smith for the purposes of maligning John Doe' character (see Laura Smith and Kiley Lowe undertake a coordinated harassment and defamation attack against John Doe).June 11th, 2020 — John Doe withdraws from his church, friend group, and social media
After being informed by members of John Doe' church leadership that Laura Smith was contacting them and threatening to "take public" that John Doe' church had deliberately covered up John Doe' alleged sexual abuse of Kiley Lowe, John Doe opted to step away from his church in order to prevent his church from being used as an attack vector against him, and to prevent him from being used as an attack vector against his church, as Laura Smith was attempting.May 2020 - Present — Laura Smith and Kiley Lowe undertake a coordinated harassment and defamation attack against John Doe
June 16th, 2020 — Elizabeth Smith pretends to be associated with law enforcement
Laura Smith messaged John Doe' friend and roommate, claiming to have been contacted by an investigator "who is going after John with allegations of rape, abuse, etc."Laura Smith informed John Doe' friend and roommate that she had delivered his contact information to the "investigator." She also separately delivered a phone number to John Doe' friend and roommate, claiming it was the contact number for the "investigator."
The phone number Laura Smith gave to John Doe' friend and roommate as well as both phone numbers which proceeded to contact John Doe' friend and roommate claiming to be "in receipt of of [John Doe' friend and roommate]'s contact information from a young woman who's hired an attorney based on alleged abuse committed against her by a Mr. John Doe" traced directly back to Elizabeth Smith.
A uniformed police officer made multiple attempts to speak with Kiley Lowe at her place of residence while she and Kent Cook were both home. Kiley Lowe and Kent Cook refused to answer the door on every attempt.
June, 2020 — John Doe passes two polygraph tests regarding accusations made by Kiley Lowe and Laura Smith
John Doe voluntarily submitted to two polygraph tests administered by licensed polygraphists regarding the claims made by both Kiley Lowe and Laura Smith.The polygraph results indicated conclusively and with no deception indicated (NDI) that the allegations made by Kiley Lowe and Laura Smith are false, and that Mr. Doe was sexually assaulted by Kiley Lowe.
